A few years ago, I developed a Transport Layer Security TLS stack for my web server. As part of that developement process, I wrote a number of test programs for the various hashing and encryption algorithms that I implemented. I put these programs in the downloads section of my website so that the occasional visitor might have access to them if there was need or interest. These programs are currently available to all; here. There are implementations that run on Windows for SHA1 and SHA2 (224, 256, 384 and 512). If you find an error, please let me know and I'll fix it.
Until about a year ago (it is summer 2009 now), I would have the occassional download. I assumed they were the result of a visit from someone I knew who might be interested in what I've been working on. Then I started to received a lot of traffic. My SHA256 implementation was being downloaded multiple times a day. As it turns out Google had started to list my page at the top of its index for a number of keyword variations around sha256. I know that Google regularly crawls my site, but had never thought that it would result in any additional traffic for these somewhat esoteric programs.
In an effort to better support these programs for those who are interested, I've created a facebook fan page. I suppose this is part two of my power of the internet experiment.
